Dennis Laverty
As Dessa’s partner in life and in business, Dennis plays a big role in the daily operations at KL&A. His 30+ years in sports management, and more than 15 years in the financial services sector have provided the perfect background for the in-house “Coach” at KL&A. While mostly involved in marketing and the Dessaco division, Dennis is actively engaged in the Life Insurance side of the business and his door is always open for a consultation.

Mike Skinner
Mike has been with KL&A for more than five years, and has a background tailor-made for his role as business partner to Dessa and Dennis – especially since he started researching and planning his own investments at the age of 12! With his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Windsor, and his specialized designation of Certified Financial Planner, Mike is uniquely qualified to manage his client’s financial planning needs from start to finish. He designs the plans, makes the presentations and helps implement the strategies that make the “million dollar difference” in the lives of his clients.

Joan Deacon
Joan manages the administrative side of KL&A, making sure that everything that’s in the plan gets done and that nothing is overlooked. Dessa says, “You want Joan in your corner!” With more than 30 years in the financial services industry, Joan knows every angle, and every person in the business. She genuinely enjoys the people she works with, and after six years at KL&A, Joan has developed a standardized (but absolutely sincere!) description for the clients that pass through their offices – “They are so nice!”

Kathy Pilkey
Kathy describes herself as a “passionate golfer” but the truth is that her real passion is helping people achieve their financial goals. After more than 25 years in the insurance industry, Kathy realized that she just wasn’t cut out for retirement, and Dessa was happy to pounce on that dedication and bring Kathy into the KL&A family. “Her life and career experiences help her understand why people (especially women) need financial planning,” says Dessa. “But it’s her personality that encourages her clients to trust her.”

Betty Wintonyk
The self-confessed “Mom” at KL&A, Betty is by profession a bookkeeper, but specializes in keeping KL&A ticking along on greased wheels. While she claims her most rewarding achievement is “proud Grandma,” Betty is an 11 year veteran of KL&A, and has been deeply involved in the development (and success!) of “The Fireman and The Waitress.” A friend for more than 25 years, Betty says that she and Dessa are “tied at the hip.” Dessa’s happy to have her there.

Jo Layne De Yong
Jo Layne is the newest addition to the KL&A team, and brings with her more than 13 years experience in the service industry. She holds a special place in a rapidly disappearing specialty – an actual, living person at the other end of the phone line! A great believer in the power of positive energy, Jo Layne channels that energy into making sure that every client who walks through the door feels welcomed and at home in the KL&A offices. That welcome is also reflected in the smile you can hear in her voice every time she picks up the phone!
